Marmalade This is a better plant than the similarly colored 'Amber Waves,' being a stronger grower. The photo shows its coloring of amber and peach. The colors look so good together. Evergreen. |
Black Beauty This is the same plant as one named 'Dark Beauty' in Europe. Its leaves are very dark, glossy and ruffled. One of our plans for it is a combination with some true blue flowers, in a container possibly of bright green. Evergreen. |
Key Lime Pie A must have to brighten up a spot that gets afternoon shade. Its lime green color will draw the eye to its pretty self, and would combine well with a variety of flowering perennials and annuals, either in the ground or in a large pot. Evergreen. |
Obsidian It is a dark color alright, with stems and the undersides of the leaves being a shade of wine. In container gardening it would contrast very well with a lighter, pastel color of pot. Evergreen. |

Peach Melba This plant is from Proven Winners. It is vigorous and fast growing. The color is a peachy apricot on the upper sides of the leaves, and a deep, dusty pink of the reverses. Susan is planning to make this arrangement with it -- an orange/red pot with a red plant in the center such as a red spike (dracena) or a red cordyline, or possibly a dwarf purple fountain-grass. To fill out the container she would add anagallis in the variety, 'Wild Orange,' and 'Laguna Blue' lobelia that has white eyes, (that can stand up to full sunlight better than other lobelias) and one or two 'Peach Melba.' Evergreen. |

Purple Petticoats With richly tinted and ruffly leaves, this is frequently used in mixed planters of perennials and annuals. And is reliably easy to grow. Evergreen. |
Silver Scrolls Another of our favorites, each leaf is dark jade with gun-metal veining throughout. The underside is purple. The photo on the right shows 'Silver Scrolls' in the center with 'Marmalade' above and 'Key Lime Pie' below. They combine together attractively and with a couple of additional plants would make a nice year-around arrangement as they are evergreen. |
